Another new French bakery to compete with the likes of Tiong Bahru Bakery, the team behind Artisan Boulangerie Compagnie has already set up five different outlets since its flagship store was first opened along Killiney Road in July last year. Under the helm of renowned baker Eran Mayer, the bakery is motivated to offer top- notch creations by importing carefully- selected ingredients from abroad.

Be enticed by the aromatic fragrance of freshly baked bread and pastries the moment you enter the bakery. One will certainly be spoilt for choice- just like how I was, Artisan Boulangerie Compagnie serves a wide selection of breads and pastries, pies, salads, quiches and sandwiches.

Chicken and Mushroom Pie ($8.50)

I have always been telling my friends that it is hard to find good savoury pies in Singapore, but I am thankful that I managed to find a good one here at Artisan Boulangerie Co. Baked till a golden brown hue in which the pie was just a little crisp, the chunks of chicken and mushrooms were drenched in delightful cream. This would be perfect to have on a cold rainy day.

Salmon and Dill Quiche ($6.00)

The cheesy filling had a very slight hint of herbal fragrance from the use of Dill and comprised several slices of smoked Salmon. Notoriously easy to go wrong, I thought this was pretty decent enough to quell my cravings.

Caramel Pecan Tart ($6.00)

My favourite number of the day, the Caramel Pecan Tart was utterly delish and my conclusion then was that this alone is worth paying return visits for. While the surrounding exterior crust was a little hard for the fork to slice through, the stick pool of rich caramel was generously laden with varying nuts and pecans.

Mango and Passion Fruit Eclair ($4.50)

Packed with a tangy sourish- sweet punch, some might find the flavours to be just a little assertive though I thought it worked brilliantly for me. The pastry itself was chewy while the cream was decadently luscious. This would make for an ideal mid- week pick-me-up.

Artisan Boulangerie Compagnie gets my vote. While seats are limited, the many locals and foreign expatriates dropping by for take- away orders, clearly shows that Artisan Boulangerie Compagnie is in the running to be one of Singapore’s best bakeries. If you happen to be lucky or even patient, dining at the venue might be a good choice.
